Growing a business while having a life

The Envato Blueprint

Can you build a thriving business and still have time for yourself? Cyan and Collis Ta'eed started Envato from their garage and turned it into a global success, all while traveling and enjoying life. Their story shows that you don't have to sacrifice personal time to achieve business goals.

Envato started in 2006 when Collis, Cyan, and Jun Rung launched FlashDen from a Sydney garage. They expanded rapidly, creating multiple marketplaces for creative resources. In 2009, after a 19-month world travel break, the Ta'eeds moved the company to Melbourne. Envato's growth continued with new marketplaces, bigger offices, and a thriving community.

After 18 fruitful years, the Ta'eeds sold Envato to Shutterstock for $375 million. This monumental deal marks a significant milestone in their careers, highlighting their ability to balance life and business. Their success proves that with harmony, you can build a thriving business without sacrificing personal fulfillment.

Harmony: A Crucial But Overlooked Requirement For Business Growth

Harmony in business isn't just a luxury; it's essential. Employees in Australia are clocking six weeks of unpaid overtime hours each year and are finding it hard to disconnect from work.

Overtime hours impact over a quarter of employees, interfering with personal life and relationships (27%), and leading to disrupted or unfulfilling non-work time (17%). Additionally, 20% noted that working outside scheduled hours negatively impacted their relationship with work, with 22% experiencing reduced motivation and 19% reporting poor job satisfaction.

The only way I’ve been able to get around my imposter syndrome is to create two rules for myself that I force myself to follow. They are:
1) If I don’t know, I always ask, even if I think it makes me look stupid.
2) I will take on any challenge offered to me and try not to worry about failure.
