PSA: You Matter (and so do the people around you)
Little Things, Big Feels
What if one small action a day could make someone feel seen, valued, and truly matter? This March, we’re inviting you to do just that.
Welcome to the Month of Mattering.
This isn’t about grand gestures. It’s about the small, intentional moments that create a culture of significance. A simple “thank you” to someone whose work often goes unnoticed. A check-in message to a colleague who’s been quieter than usual. A handwritten note to someone who’s made an impact on your life. These small actions have the power to transform relationships, teams, and communities.
And the data backs it up:
A study by Harvard Business Review found that employees who feel recognised are 63% more likely to stay at their job.
Research shows that employees who feel valued are 4.6 times more likely to perform at their best.
In schools, affirmations have been shown to improve academic performance, boost confidence, and enhance resilience. They help students develop a growth mindset and reduce self-limiting beliefs
Research shows that children who feel valued and heard by their parents are twice as likely to develop strong emotional resilience and self-esteem.
A meta-analysis found that poor social engagement increases the risk of Alzheimer's by 41%, while strong social ties can lower it by up to 62%.
Send the Text. Leave the Note. Make Their Day.
Author and researcher Zach Mercurio has created a Mattering Month Calendar to make it easy. Each day features a simple but powerful action—one step toward making someone feel they matter.
Here’s a glimpse at a few:
Tell someone you rely on them by saying, "If it wasn’t for you..."
Compliment something specific that often goes unnoticed.
Write a note to a leader or mentor and share how they’ve impacted you.
Learn a stranger’s name and ask what’s most meaningful to them.
Check in on someone you’ve been meaning to reach out to.
Ask someone, "What’s something you're passionate about that I may not know?"
Reflect: "If it wasn’t for me…" and remind yourself how you’re needed.
Making mattering a daily practice isn’t just good for the people around us—it strengthens our own sense of purpose, belonging, and fulfillment. Imagine the ripple effect if we all committed to one small act of mattering each day.
