Finding meaning in work for rural workers

Beginnings. New rural workers. Meaning.

The situation:

Working in rural and remote areas can be difficult, but highly rewarding. A community that creates rural career opportunities for young people approached Modern People to help them mentor and retain their newest talent. They wanted their community to be confident in supporting their newest recruits, both emotionally and through developing important skills.

What they did:

Several key organisations in the rural network worked with Modern People to develop critical skills in their leaders, which the leaders would scale within their own organisations. They learned the importance of values, what helps and hinders us as people when we face change, and what their biggest personal blockages were. Then, they dove into a Masterclass to address their blockages, and support their young workers better.

The impact it made:

When the group of rural leaders came together to talk about values, change and meaningful work for the first time, they realised how important it is to operate from the heart. Rural workers are taught to be resilient above all else, but resilience comes from more than just getting back on our feet after a disappointment or setback. Resilience comes from connecting to our values, to why we do what we do, creating strong relationships, and choosing to live with purpose. As leaders in the community, it was important for everyone to get on the same page and make that choice for themselves.

The Masterclass was such a success that the community asked Modern People to keep them coming. The group votes on which Masterclass they want to tackle next, from showing others they Matter, to becoming Net Positive rural businesses in their community.
