Learning to create Mattering as a new CEO

Vulnerable people. A break-in. Leadership talks.

The situation

A new CEO, Freya, had recently begun our Modern Leaders program. Three weeks into the program, they shared some distressing news with their cohort: their residential facilities had been broken into overnight. The night workers and residents were all shaken.

What they did

Freya spent time with every night worker and every resident. She listened to everyone’s concerns, got to know them as people, and applied every Mattering principle she’d learned. Bear in mind, Freya was less than two weeks into her role, so many people hadn’t even had the chance to meet her. It was quite an introduction.

The impact it made

Many of the night workers and residents had never met their previous CEOs. They were surprised by Freya’s willingness to move her already over-full calendar around, and pleased with the opportunity to meet the leader behind their much-loved facilities. For Freya, it made her realise how much of an impact she could make, just by thinking differently, taking action, and Creating Mattering.

Note:

Our hero’s name is changed for privacy. Doesn’t Freya sound cool, though?
