Light a fire in your team

There’s more than one way to light a fire in your people after a break.

One of our go-to’s is the two ‘C’s: challenge or celebrate.

Is your team crying out for a challenge or a celebration?

There’s a time and a place for both, and it comes down to your intuition as a leader to choose what’s right for you. Or, consider handing the choice over to your people.

Challenge.

We all need equal parts challenge and support to thrive. Where purpose-led cultures fall apart is when we have too much of one or the other – especially when it’s for an extended time.

If your culture is all support and low challenge, it might be time to turn it up a notch.

Ask yourself…

  • Is my team feeling challenged enough?

  • Are some more challenged than others?

  • How can I address that?

  • What stretch goals do our team want to set?

  • What potential do I want to support in others?

  • If I dial up the challenge, do I need to dial up the support, too?

Celebrate.

Sometimes, a celebration is just what the doctor ordered – particularly if we’ve challenged ourselves a lot. There’s no denying a bit of down time (or a peak experience, if that’s more your thing) pays dividends.

So how do you want to celebrate?

Ask yourself…

  • What celebration feels aligned to our values?

  • What does my team need right now to re-fill our cups?

  • What have we done before?

  • What have we always wanted to try?
